Maya Bhandari,
Senior Economist, Lombard Street Research
Maya Bhandari joined Lombard Street Research in 2005. She covers a range of economies with a particular focus on India, Brazil and Japan. Since joining LSR Maya's work has encompassed extensive research into the UK, US, Central and Eastern European economies as well as some of the smaller Asian economies.
Maya is currently responsible for Lombard Street Research coverage of India, Brazil, Japan, France and Italy. She conducts regular trips to Brazil and India to supplement her desk research. Maya publishes regular Daily Notes on specialist areas and contributes to monthly publications including Global Investment Strategy and Asset Allocation reports.
Maya has a 1st Class MA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Edinburgh and an MPhil in International Relations from the University of Cambridge. Maya is a regular commentator on CNBC and Bloomberg News and her research is frequently quoted in the financial press.
Roger Bootle,
Economist
One of the City of London’s best-known economists, Roger Bootle is Economic Adviser to Deloitte. He also runs the consultancy, Capital Economics, is a Specialist Adviser to the House of Commons Treasury Committee and an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries. He was formerly Group Chief Economist of HSBC and, before the change of government, he was a member of the former Chancellor’s panel of Independent Economic Advisers, the so-called “Wise Men”.
Roger Bootle studied at Oxford University and then became a Lecturer in Economics at St Anne’s College, Oxford. Most of his subsequent career has been spent in the City of London.
He has written many articles and several books on monetary economics. Roger’s latest book, The Trouble with Markets, analyses the deep causes of the recent financial crisis and discusses the threats to capitalism arising from it. His previous book, Money for Nothing, correctly anticipated the financial crisis and has been widely acclaimed. This followed the success of The Death of Inflation, published in 1996, which became a best-seller and was subsequently translated into nine languages. Initially dismissed as extreme, The Death of Inflation is now widely recognised as prophetic. Roger is also joint author of the book Theory of Money, and author of Index-Linked Gilts.
Roger is a regular columnist for The Daily Telegraph and also appears frequently on television and radio.
Dr James Chu,
Managing Director, Incapital Europe Limited.
Dr. James Chu, CFA, is Managing Director, Investments at Incapital Europe Limited, a trans-Atlantic market leading provider of structured investments and fixed income securities for professionally advised investors.
Prior to Incapital, James was Chief Investment Officer of Blue Sky Asset Management, an award winning investment firm specialising in research backed structured investments for the intermediary business channel, with tailored offerings for discretionary managers, private client stockbrokers and institutions. His career in managing derivatives based funds and investments extends back to 1994, with roles including Business Development Head, Investment & Financial Products, at American Express Bank, where he focused on developing structured investment strategies, on multi-asset underlyings, for private clients globally, and Investment Director at HSBC Asset Management, where he started his investment career working with investors in the UK and Asia.

Anthony Hilton,
Financial Editor, Evening Standard, London.
Anthony Hilton – 63, won the 2007 " Decade of Excellence Award," for business and financial journalism given annually by the World Press
Awards in competition with a short list of writers from Fortune, and the Wall Street Journal and other English language titles. Also in 2007 he was also named as the UK Pensions Journalist of the Year by Aon, the Commentator of the year by the Private Equity and Venture Capital Association and was runner up as financial journalist of the year by the Institute of Internal Auditors. In previous years he has won many other industry awards including the European business writer of the year and the Wincott Business journalist of the year and the London Press club's business writer of the year.
He has worked in television and radio, has written books on understanding finance and the City, and is a frequent conference and after dinner speaker and moderator on City and media matters and has a specialist knowledge of economics, pensions, insurance, fund management and banking. He was one of the few economics writers to predict the crash well in advance of it beginning, and to forecast equall accurately when it did begin that it would be of unusual depth and severity.
In addition to journalism he has also had a commercial career, serving as managing director of the Evening Standard company for six years and being involved with the launch of several magazine and publishing companies. He is joint founder and non-executive chairman of The Newsdesk Media Group, a business which now employs 70 people in Britain and America, and turns over £8 million a year. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Foundation, a management consultancy specialising in understanding customer relationships and was previously a non-executive director of a Lloyd's insurance company. He is a trustee director and member of the investment advisory board of the Daily Mail pension schemes which has responsibility for funds in excess of £1.9 billion. He has also served on the boards of various charitable and public bodies among them the St John's Ambulance appeal, the Children's Film foundation, the Aberdeen University Sixth Century appeal and London First. He joined Fleet Street in 1968 as a Trainee on the Guardian. He was on the Observer as a business feature writer from 1969 to 1971, the Daily Mail from 1971-1972 and the Sunday Express 1972-1974. He then edited Accountancy Age from 1974 until he moved to New York for the Sunday Times in 1979 returning to become City Editor of the Times in 1981. In 1983 he left to help set up Redwood Publishing and in 1984 moved to the Evening Standard where he was City Editor from 1984 to 1989. In November 1989 he became Managing Director of the Evening Standard, a post he held for six years before returning to the City Office asFinancial Editor and economics leader writer for the paper.
Jonathan Hooley,
Chairman of the CISX.
Jonathan is a Guernsey born chartered accountant who spent most of his career working as an international tax adviser in London. Jonathan is also a chartered tax adviser and a chartered director.
Jonathan trained with KPMG in London, qualifying in 1979. He was made a partner of KPMG in London in 1987 and continued to work with KPMG until September 2007 when he retired as the senior partner of KPMG in the Channel Islands.
On retiring from KPMG Jonathan was appointed as the chairman of the Channel Islands Stock Exchange, an organisation with which he has been closely associated since its establishment in 1998. Jonathan also acts as a non-executive director for a number of other companies.
While in public practice, Jonathan advised the States of Guernsey on an informal basis for a number of years on its response to the OECD and EU tax initiatives. On his retirement he was appointed as an adviser on external affairs to the States of Guernseyl.
Andrew Isham,
Director, Deloitte Jersey
Andrew Isham is a Director of Deloitte in Jersey and has extensive experience in offshore markets. Andrew has over fifteen years experience in financial markets. He has a portfolio of audit clients including banks, real estate structures, fiduciary and fund management. In addition to providing assurance services Andrew has led project teams for liquidator appointments on active regulated fund management companies and regulatory appointments and has advised on a number of due diligence assignments in both takeovers and restructurings. Andrew is the current vice president of the Jersey Society of Chartered and Certified Accountants and chairs the technical committee.
Michael Jackson,
Corporate Marketing and Business Strategist
Michael Jackson has over 25 years of strategic business, marketing and communications experience. Born in Britain, then London educated and trained in business strategy development and communication he has worked personally with Richard Branson at Virgin Atlantic, as well as with the directors of many other global businesses such as Microsoft, Nike and HP.

Angela Knight, CBE,
Chief Executive, British Bankers’ Association.
After leaving Bristol University with an honours degree in chemistry, Angela worked for the American industrial gas company Air Products Ltd. She was the product development manager for the application and sales of nitrogen as an inert carrier during the treatment of ferrous metal components.
She went on to set up and was Chief Executive of a specialist contract heat treatment company treating precision engineering components - Cook & Knight Metallurgical Processors Ltd - and associated process plant manufacturing company.
From 1987 to 1992 she was Councillor and Chief Whip on Sheffield City Council. She entered Parliament in 1992 as MP for Erewash and was Economic Secretary to the Treasury between 1995 and 1997, when she lost her seat at the General Election. She was the Chief Executive of the Association of Private Client Investment Managers and Stockbrokers from September 1997 to December 2006.
She is currently the Chief Executive of the British Bankers Association. She is also a non-executive director on the boards of IFSL, Brewin Dolphin plc and the Financial Services Skills Council.
Tamara Menteshvili,
Chief Executive Channel Islands Stock Exchange, LBG.
Born in the United Kingdom and a naturalised citizen of the United States of America, Ms Menteshvili was educated in New York and has wide regulatory and financial services experience. She graduated Cum Laude from Queens College of the University of the City of New York where she majored in Political Science and English.
Ms Menteshvili was formerly the Deputy Director of Investment Business at the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC), and served in that capacity since 1995, prior to her appointment as Director and Chief Executive of the Exchange. During this time, she developed a supervisory regime for the extended Protection of Investors Law and was also instrumental in developing the initiative for the establishment of the Exchange. Prior to her appointment at the GFSC, Ms Menteshvili worked from 1972 – 1989 for Merrill Lynch in New York and London reaching the position of Vice President and Regional Administration Manager, Institutional Sales. In 1990 she joined the United Kingdom’s Investment Management Regulatory Organisation.
Ms Menteshvili is a member of the Institute of Directors and a Fellow of the Securities & Investment Institute. She is a Liveryman and Court Assistant of The Worshipful Company of International Bankers. She holds the Freedom of the City of London and is a member of the Guild of Freemen of the City of London.
Helena Morrissey,
Chief Executive Officer, Newton Investment Management.
Helena Morrissey is Chief Executive Officer of Newton Investment Management Ltd, BNY Mellon’s U.K.-based global equity and fixed-income specialist.
Mrs. Morrissey joined Newton in 1994 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in July 2001.She retains a keen interest in Newton's investment strategy and is a member of its Investment Committee. Prior to her appointment as CEO, Mrs. Morrissey was head of Fixed Income, managing a number of specialist global and single currency bond funds.
Mrs. Morrissey is also a Director of the United Kingdom's Investment Management Association and represents the industry on the FSA's Practitioner Panel. She is a member of the Royal Academy's Corporate Board. Recently, the Financial News included Helena in their third annual list of the 100 most influential women in Europe. A Cambridge graduate, she began her career as a global bond analyst with Schroders in New York. Helena is married with nine children.
Paul Mortimer-Lee,
Global Head of Market Economics, BNP Paribas.
Paul Mortimer-Lee is responsible for the global economic coverage of the bank’s team of market economists who are located in the main financial centres. Paul is based in London and has worked for the bank since 1995. Amongst Paul’s recent main focuses have been the financial crisis, the US slowdown, global inflation and global imbalances. Paul writes a regular article for the Nikkei newspaper and is a regular commentator on TV and in other media.
Prior to taking up his position with BNP Paribas, Paul worked for many years in what is now the Monetary Analysis Division of at the Bank of England, where his most recent position was has Division Head for forecasting and conjunctural analysis. He also worked in the Bank’s Gilt Edged and Money Markets Division and on issues relating to regulation and taxation policy. Paul also worked for a time at the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC. Paul was educated at the London School of Economics where he obtained his BSc (Economics) and MSc, specialising in monetary economics.
Jon Moulton,
Chairman of Better Capital, LLP
Jon Moulton, Chairman of Better Capital, was until recently Managing Partner of Alchemy, a UK-based private equity firm, which invested £2.0 billion of equity with an emphasis on dealing with troubled companies. Alchemy also has a £300m European special opportunities fund investing principally in distressed debt.
He is a Chartered Accountant, a CF and Fellow of the Institute for Turnaround Professionals. Previously worked with Citicorp Venture Capital in New York and London, Permira and Apax. He is a trustee of the UK Stem Cell Foundation and an active angel investor. He is non-executive Chairman of FinnCap, the stockbroker.
Robert Parker,
Senior Advisor, Credit Suisse.
Robert is a Member of Credit Suisse’s Investment Committee. He also has responsibility globally for the management and development of new business and client relationships for Credit Suisse. Prior to joining Credit Suisse in 1982, Robert spent six years at N M Rothschild & Sons working in the foreign exchange/fixed income investment operation. He started his career at Lloyds Bank International in France in Corporate Finance.
Robert was one of the founding members of CSFB Investment Management (CSFBIM). From 1982 until 1994 he led and developed CSFBIM's foreign exchange and fixed income business. In 1994, he became Co-Chairman of CSFBIM and in 1995 he was responsible for integrating the Asset Management operations of Credit Suisse and CSFB. From 1995 until 1998, he was Chief Executive of CSAM's Asset Management business in London From 1998 to 2009, he was Vice Chairman of the Asset Management Business.
Robert is a member of the Advisory Boards of the European Institute and Funds Europe and is a member of the Advisory Council of the UK CFA Society. He is a member of the Global Advisory Board of Quilvest. He is also Chairman of the Asset Management & Investors Council and is a board member of the International Capital Markets Association. In addition, he is on the Development Committee of St John’s College Cambridge and chairs the Development Committee of King’s College School. Robert received his B.A and M.A. in Economics from the University of Cambridge.
Colin Powell, OBE,
Chairman of the Offshore Group of Banking Supervisors (OGBS) and Advisor on International Affairs for the States of Jersey Chief Minister’s Department.
From 1969 to 1999 Colin Powell was Adviser to the States of Jersey on the Island’s economic development including as an international finance centre. From 1999 to September 2009 he held the position of Chairman of the Jersey Financial Services Commission, the body responsible for the regulation of all financial services in Jersey. He is currently Adviser on International Affairs in the Chief Minister’s Department, and in this capacity is engaged in negotiating tax information exchange agreements and represents Jersey as one of the Vice-Chairs of the Global Forum Peer Review Group. Since 1981 he has held the position of Chairman of the Offshore Group of Banking Supervisors (OGBS), a group of 18 offshore centres.
Merfyn Roberts,
Senior Fund Manager for New City Energy Limited

Senior Fund Manager for New City Energy Limited. Merfyn is also an adviser to City Natural Resources High Yield Trust and Geiger Counter Limited.
Prior to joining New City in 2006, he worked in a variety of fund management roles in the commodities sector, including launching and managing an in-house fund at Minorco SA.
Began his career in commodities fund management at Target Group and has more than thirty years experience in portfolio management.
Merfyn holds a BSc in Geology from Liverpool University and a MSc in Geochemistry from Oxford University. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Merfyn is a Director of several resource companies, including Agnico-Eagle Mines Limited and Eastern Platinum Limited.
Tajinder Singh,
Deputy Secretary, International Organisation of Securities Commission (IOSCO).
Mr. Tajinder Singh was previously Head of International Affairs & Human Resource Development and Executive Assistant to the Chairman in the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
Mr. Singh comes from the Indian Administrative Service and has held various positions in the Ministry of Finance in the Government of India, as well as handling a number of assignments for the government in the financial and other sectors. He has over 18 years of experience at senior leadership positions in different organizations dealing with strategic issues in regulation, finance and administration, and significant domestic and international experience dealing with Government and regulators.
Mr. Singh was Vice-Chairman of the Implementation Task Force of IOSCO, and played a key role in organizing the IOSCO Annual Conference in Mumbai in 2007. Mr. Singh holds a Masters Degree in Systems Science and Automationfrom the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and graduated in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur.
The Deputy Secretary General’s duties include providing strategic advice; implementing aspects of IOSCO’s Strategic Direction; managing relations with IOSCO’s membership and being responsible for the administrative functioning of the Secretariat.
Paul Wharton,
Chief Investment Strategist, Deutsche Bank.
Paul graduated from University College London in 1985 and trained with Fidelity shortly after leaving university. Paul subsequently completed a diploma in business studies before establishing a business in conjunction with Norwich Union/Aviva specialising in the management of pension funds. In the early 1990s Paul was recruited by Societe Generale to develop a UK division serving the rapidly growing market for investors in Self-invested Personal Pensions. In 2003 this business was sold by the management team to Tilney Investment Management Ltd which was itself subsequently acquired by Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management in 2006.
Paul has over 20 years experience of investment markets and management. He brings a passion for economic history to his role and served on the key UK investment committees of both SocGen and Tilney. In his current role of Chief Investment Strategist for Deutsche Bank Wealth Management UK he is responsible for Economic and Market Strategy and the income oriented portfolios within the UK onshore DB Discretionary Portfolio Service. He serves on both the UK Investment Committee and Global Investment Committee.
Paul is a regular speaker at industry conferences and contributor to the financial press.
